Patrick J. Keating, Managing Director 




Over the past 35+ years Patrick has put together an extensive set of capabilities to advise companies in executing their "growth through innovation" efforts. 


Patrick's began developing his capabilities related for advising "growth through innovation" in 1988 in San Francisco at Morgan Stanley, Merrill Lynch, Citicorp and, from 1996 – 1998, at Hambrecht & Quist Investment Banking (H&Q). 


It was at H&Q that Patrick learned how to take early and expansion stage technology companies from an “Idea to an IPO”.  H&Q was one of the leading technology investment banks in the world at the time led by Dan Case, completing 103 IPOs with a value of $4.5 billion during Patrick's tenure at the company for companies such as Amazon, Cienna, Netscape and Pixar. This included Patrick's participation in the IPO of Hambrecht & Quist in August of 1996 as the stock began trading at $16 per share rising to as high as $45 per share in December of 1997.


In 1998 Patrick continued to develop his capabilities for advising "growth through innovation" on a global basis by relocating to the emerging market of Istanbul Turkey. In Istanbul Patrick became the Managing Director of Corporate Finance at Strateji Securities from 1998 - 2002, where he led it to become one of the leading corporate advisory firms adivisng early and expansion stage technology-based companies in Turkey with their "growth through innovation" efforts. This included the organization of the first technology investment conference at the Swiss Hotel in Istanbul in 2000, where 32 Turkish companies presented their "growth through innovation" efforts to 1,500 domestic and international investors. 


In 2002, Patrick took an exciting position to develop his investment capabilities in "growth through innovation" by becoming the General Manager and Member of the Board of Directors of Is Venture Capital (the largest venture capital fund in Turkey at the time), where he successfully led his team in investing nearly $50.0 million in 8 companies achieving a 23.8% IRR from these investments. He also led the IPO of Is Girisim on the Istanbul Stock Exchange in 2004.


In 2006 Patrick left Is Girisim and, with two other Turkish partners from the pharmaceutical industry, created Bosfor Bioscience Partners. Bosfor Bioscience became the leading bioscience corporate advisory firm in Turkey at the time. This included several transactions culminated by the largest bioscience acquisition at the time in Turkey of Monrol by Eczacibasi - the largest pharmaceuticals company in Turkey at the time.


From August of 2008 to May of 2012, Patrick relocated to Lyon FRANCE to develop his capabilties focusing on "growth through innovation" in the semioconductor device and materials sector as Senior Partner at Yole Finance. Yole Finance was a business unit of Yole Developpement - the world's leading market research company on semiconductor devices and materials with an emphasis on MEMS technologies.


In 2012, that Patrick decided to form Keating International to take his well-developed capabilities for advising "growth through innovation" efforts under his own company. This included the establishment of Velo Capital Partners - a business unit of Keating International - mainly focused on advising, developing and financing the next generation of innovation in the global cycling industry from 2012 - 2017. 


Beginning in 2018 Patrick decided to narrow his efforts at Keating International on advising companies on their "growth through innovation efforts" mainly in the Auvergne-Rhone-Alpes Region and, outside of it, in a few select sectors, such as the internet and digital media, enabling technologies and services, agriculture and food and healthcare. 


Patrick holds a Bachelor of Science degree from St. John’s University, College Minnesota in 1979 and a Master of Public Administration degree from the University of Montana, Missoula Montana in 1984.
